Christensen wanted to impart a luxurious, opulent feel in "Dark Tannins". The Persian rug, antiques, and premium Stag's Leap wine contribute to the composition. "Dark Tannins" also refers to the structure and boldness of the wine which is echoed by the dark ornamental plum branches in the vase.
